Sunshine with cloudy spells, 13°, light SW.

Alan out today with 3 Common Sandpiper along the Bunk area plus Willow Warbler, Chiffchaff, Reed Bunting and Swallow.

A single Wheatear on Lollingdon Hill plus Corn Bunting, a Raven and Peregrine over, Chiffchaff and Blackcap.

River: Common Whitethroat, Cetti’s Warbler, Swallow etc.

Michael Pocock had a Redpoll in his garden this morning.

Dragonflies: Large Red Damselfly.

Butterflies: Brimstone, Orange Tip, Holly Blue, Small Tortoiseshell, Peacock, Comma and Speckled Wood.

A day for Butterflies and a Dragon

Hazy sunshine, 19°, breezy SSW.

A visit to Lollingdon the Bunk and River today: Wheatear, Willow Warbler, Chiffchaff, Blackcap, Common Whitethroat, Sedge Warbler, Cetti’s Warbler, Goldcrest, Reed Bunting, Corn Bunting, Yellowhammer, Grey Wagtail, Common Snipe, Lapwing, Sparrowhawk, and 6+1 Lesser Blackback Gull.

20-30 Hirundines noted, mainly Swallow and Sand Martin and a single House Martin.

Mammals: Brown Hare and Roe Deer.

Dragonflies: Large Red Damselfly.

Butterflies: Brimstone, Green-veined White, Orange Tip, Holly Blue, Small Tortoiseshell, Comma, Peacock and Speckled Wood.

A wet one

Rain, 11°, breezy SSW.

Lollingdon, Bunk and River areas covered again: Wheatear, Common Redstart, several Chiffchaff, 2 Willow Warbler, Common Whitethroat, Sedge Warbler, several Blackcap, Cetti’s Warbler, several Swallow, a Sand Martin, 8 Yellowhammer, a few Reed Bunting, 8 Lapwing, a Raven, a Sparrowhawk and a Kestrel.

Mammals: Brown Hare and Roe Deer.

A few new ones for the year

Mainly cloudy, 15°, breezy SE.
 
Bunk, Lollingdon and River areas covered. Common Whitethroat, Sedge Warbler, 20+ Chiffchaff, 4 Willow Warbler, Cetti’s Warbler, 8+ Blackcap, Goldcrest, 6 Swallow, 3 Sand Martin, a Bullfinch, 2-3 Corn Bunting, 6 Yellowhammer, a few Reed Bunting, Nuthatch, Grey Wagtail, 6+ Lapwing, Water Rail, 2 Herring Gull and a Raven etc.

Lots of Buzzard in the air today with several displaying plus a Sparrowhawk, Kestrel and Peregrine.

Mammals: Brown Hare.

Butterflies: Brimstone, Orange Tip, Small Tortoiseshell, Comma and Peacock.

Spring like?

Bunk: 2 Oystercatcher and a Common Sandpiper.

River: Swallow over, Chiffchaff, Blackcap, Nuthatch, Peregrine, Corn Bunting and another Oystercatcher.

Butterflies: Brimstone, Orange Tip, Holly Blue and Peacock.

Showers & Sunshine

Showers and Sunshine, 15°, breezy WSW.

Lollingdon, Bunk Line and River.

Our first Swallow of the year noted heading north over the Bunk line area.

Good numbers of Chiffchaff, 2 Cetti’s Warbler, 2 Blackcap, a Wheatear, 2 Raven, 8 Lapwing, several Pied Wagtail, a handful of Siskin over, 6 Yellowhammer, a Reed Bunting and a Grey Heron.

Mammals: Brown Hare.

Butterflies: plenty of Peacock and a single Small Tortoiseshell.

Varied weather

Sunny at first then cloudy with rain, 15°, breezy S.

Lollingdon and Bunk covered in the last few days: 2-3 Wheatear, a Common Redstart, many Chiffchaff, 2 Willow Warbler, 2 Blackcap, 3 Fieldfare, a single Redwing, Bullfinch, Jay, Goldcrest, Treecreeper, 8+ Lapwing, 2 Herring Gull and 2 Lesser Blackback Gull.

1st Sedge Warbler of the year. Per Phil Dyson.  

Mammals: Brown Hare, Muntjac and Roe Deer.

Butterflies: Brimstone, Green-veined White, Small Tortoiseshell, Peacock and Comma.

All quiet

Most areas quiet today: 6 Fieldfare yesterday, 3 Redwing today, plus several Chiffchaff, a Blackcap, Kingfisher, 6 Meadow Pipit, a Grey Wagtail, several Pied Wagtail, 6 Yellowhammer, Sparrowhawk, 2 Lapwing, 7 Lesser Blackback Gull, a Grey Heron and 2 Mute Swan.

A little cooler

Bunk, Lollingdon and River areas covered today and yesterday.

7 Wheatear, many Chiffchaff, 6-8 Yellowhammer, at least 12 Pied Wagtail, 8 Lapwing, 2 Mute Swan, 2 Herring Gull and 1 Lesser Blackback Gull.

Blackcap in song yesterday.

Mammals: Brown Hare.

Butterflies: yesterday – Brimstone, Peacock & Comma.

Insects: yesterday – Dark-edged Bee Fly.

Wheatears moving through

Rain at first then sunny spells, 9°, light SW.

Wheatears still passing through on Lollingdon Hill. With 10 yesterday and 7 today. Per Michael Pocock and Alan Dawson.

Cholsey

Cloudy with prolonged sunny spells, 15°, light SW.

Bunk, Lollingdon and River covered in the last 2 days.

Appears to have been a big influx of Chiffchaff over the last couple of days as they are all over. A Willow Warbler also heard singing today out at Lollingdon.

A few waders also turned up today with a Little Ringed Plover, Green Sandpiper and an Oystercatcher.

A Blackcap in song, 4 Siskin, 8 Lapwing, 3 Grey Heron, several Pied Wagtail and Meadow Pipit, Corn Bunting, Reed Bunting, Yellowhammer and a small flock of Redwing.

We’ve had a male Pheasant resident in the garden for approx. 2 months now. He hangs around under the feeders to pick up anything that drops to the ground and out muscles the Squirrels.

Mammals: Brown Hare.

Butterflies: Brimstone, Peacock and Comma.

A quiet day

Mainly cloudy with some light rain, 14°, light SSW.

Bunk area: 7 Chiffchaff in total, 1 Blackcap, 2m Reed Bunting, 6 Lapwing, 3 Grey Heron, c100 Lesser Blackback Gull, 5 Herring Gull and a Mute Swan. Pretty quiet overall.

First time this year: no “Winter Thrushes”.

Butterflies: 1 Brimstone.

1st Wheatears arrive

Mainly cloudy, 14°, light SSW.

4 good birds found by Alan today. A Wheatear on Lollingdon Hill and a Curlew and Green Sandpiper along the Bunk area and a Peregrine seen.

A Wheatear also found on Saturday an Lollingdon Hill. Per Michael Pocock.

Butterflies: 2 Brimstone on the allotments yesterday.
