May Day

Sunshine, showers, 16°, light NW.

Lollingdon: 2 (f) Wheatear, 2 Lesser Whitethroat, several Common Whitethroat and Blackcap, Mandarin Duck, 3 Lapwing, 1 Black-headed Gull, 4 Yellow Wagtail, a handful of Swallow and a (f) Common Redstart close to the Bullshole.

3 Swift, 2 House Martin and 5 Swallow over Church Road.

River: Lesser Whitethroat, Common Whitethroat, Blackcap, Garden Warbler, Reed Warbler, Sedge Warbler and Reed Bunting.

Mammals: Brown Hare.

Butterflies: Brimstone, Green-veined White, Orange Tip, Holly BlueSmall Tortoiseshell & Peacock.

Insects: Dotted Bee-fly.

Not a lot

Sunny spells, 16°, breezy SE.

Very quiet locally with most areas covered and a complete lack of migrants noted.

Only summer visitors noted today were Chiffchaff and Blackcap.

Skylark quite prominent and song flight heard in most areas and several Yellowhammer and Linnet along the hedgerows.

Water Rail on the marsh and 2 Lapwing over.

Mammals: Brown Hare and Roe Deer.

Butterflies: Brimstone, Small White, Peacock, Small Tortoiseshell and Comma.

Insects: Dotted Bee-fly.

A Butterfly day & Wheatears

Sunny, 12°, light WNW.

3 Wheatear still present on Lollingdon Hill along with 6 Fieldfare and 2 Meadow Pipit.

A Raven heard calling nearby and the Little Owl seen.

At least 7 Chiffchaff heard/seen in song and 2 Blackcap seen out at Lollingdon.

Several Yellowhammer singing in various places and a couple of Treecreeper in song.

Butterflies: Brimstone, Green-veined White, Orange Tip (TR), Small Tortoiseshell and Peacock.

Moths: Mottled Grey (another new sp for Cholsey, perTR).

Insects: Black Oil Beetle and Dotted Bee-fly.

a (Common) Pipistrelle flying around the meadow at dusk.
