A wet one

Rain, 10°, light W.

Bunk area: No camera today due to rainy conditions.

Definitely 2, probably 6 Crossbill flew SSE over Green lane. First record since 2018.

2 Stonechat still present, Winter Thrush numbers still low with only 3 Fieldfare and 6 Redwing seen.

3 Yellowhammer, 2 Jay and up to a thousand Gulls loafing in fields on the periphery of the gravel workings. Quite distant but could make out mainly Lesser Blackback, with 60+ Black-headed and a handful of Herring Gull. Maybe something else but not noted.

TW noted several Siskin at Cholsey Marsh today.

Egrets

Overcast, 13°, light S.

The day started with a Great White Egret found by Geoff Wyatt on the Thames flood by Nosworthy Way, Winterbrook bridge. When Michael Pocock arrived a little later it had been joined by a second. 3rd & 4th records for Cholsey.

Possibly a 3rd GWE seen on the flood in the horse field  near Caps lane later in the day. Per MA.

Bunk pretty quiet. Very few Thrushes with c20 Fieldfare and a handful of Redwing. 4 Yellowhammer, several Chiffchaff, 2 Mute Swan still on the flood and c50 Shoveler flying over and 2 Peregrine.

River: Water Rail, Little Egret, singing Mistle Thrush, Siskin and good numbers Of Fieldfare and Redwing. Per Alan.

A Ring-necked Parakeet over CSW yesterday and a Blackcap in song. Per Alan.

Mammals: Otter.

Butterflies: Red Admiral.

A wet one

Overcast with frequent rain showers, 14°, light SW.

A wet walk out to Lollingdon hill this morning. A Little Egret in the Little Lollingdon area and 2 Stonechat still on the hill.

Higher numbers of Meadow Pipit around with c100 counted plus good numbers of Pied Wagtail.

2+ Redpoll, 14 Yellowhammer, a Little Owl calling and appears to be an influx of Chaffinch with 80+ seen.

5 Chiffchaff scattered about and 7 House Martin overhead and a single Swallow over Church Road late afternoon.

Alan along the river later in the day, Cetti’s Warbler (in song), Chiffchaff, Reed Bunting, Sparrowhawk and House Martin.

Mammals: Brown Hare & Roe Deer and Tony Williams saw an Otter on the river.

Dragonflies: Migrant Hawker.

Butterflies: a single Small White.

Otter & Redstart

Mainly sunny, 26°, light NW.

The find of the day has to be a video of an Otter in a garden in Church Road.

A busy Lollingdon hill today. 3 Common Redstart seen (1m & 2f/juv). Present in the same hedgerow were, several Chiffchaff, 3 Common Whitethroat, 2 singing Corn Bunting, 3-4 Yellowhammer, 4 Blackcap, 2 Yellow Wagtail and 2 Great-spotted Woodpecker. A flock of c12 Long-tailed Tit passed thru, accompanied by several Blue and Great Tit plus a few more Chiffchaff and a Lesser Whitethroat.

Nearby, a Little Owl, 5 Mistle Thrush and a couple more Yellow Wagtail.

Earlier in the day Alan & Bryan Wyatt saw 2 Oystercatcher circling around over the Bunk Line.

Dragonflies: Banded Demoiselle & Brown Hawker.

Butterflies: Small Skipper, Large White, Small White, Common Blue, Red Admiral, Small Tortoiseshell, Speckled Wood, Marbled White, Gatekeeper, Meadow Brown, Ringlet & Small Heath.

Just another day

Mainly sunny, 13°, light SSE.

Fairly quiet out at Lollingdon today. A few small flocks of Redwing and just a couple of Fieldfare.

The usual Yellowhammer and Reed Bunting plus 6-8 Chiffchaff in song.

One of the Little Owl seen in its usual spot and heard calling and a pair of Pied Wagtail back in their breeding area.

A Peregrine Falcon seen high over Church Road early afternoon. Per Richard Broughton.

Alan up at Silly Bridge initially with Several Corn Bunting, Meadow Pipit and Skylark. Then along the Marsh with, several Chiffchaff in song plus Water Rail and Reed Bunting.

Tony W, up until recently has been visited by at least 6 different Blackcap in the garden.

Mammals: Alan found 2 Otter this morning along the stretch of river between Bow Bridge and the 4-Arches.

Also, today Brown Hare and Roe Deer.

Butterflies: a good number of Brimstone (all sites) and a Peacock (per RB).

Another quiet day

Cloudy, 8°, light NW.

Another quiet day with both out along the river.

4 Mute Swan heading down river and a flock of Geese flew in with 30+ Canada, 2 Greylag and 4 Egyptian Geese.

2-3 Cormorant up and down the river, 2 Kingfisher, a Common Snipe, 3 Kestrel and a Sparrowhawk.

I put some apples out last night and………. A female Blackcap feeding on them today.

And 2 Mistle Thrush in the Brook meadow.

4 Stonechat and a Grey Wagtail around the Long Ditch out by the Lees recently. Per Vicky Gilson.

A Corn Bunting in song on Cholsey Hill yesterday.  

Mammals: An Otter reported by a fisherman and a Mink seen on the islands by the 4-Arches recently. Per Stephen Haigh.
