A quiet one.

Cloudy, 11°, light WSW.

Alan on his usual patch along the river today. 20+ Siskin, Water Rail, Redwing, Fieldfare, Mistle Thrush, Song Thrush, Kingfisher, 2 Little Grebe, Treecreeper, 2 Stonechat plus other regulars.

Bunk line/Green Lane: Good numbers of Fieldfare and Redwing, Mistle Thrush, 2 Herring Gull, Jay, Reed Bunting, Yellowhammer, Meadow Pipit and 100+ Black-headed Gull at CSW.

20+ Lapwing and a couple of Golden Plover on Cholsey Hill.

Forgot to mention a Barn Owl along the Bunk yesterday. Per Alan.

Quiet start to Year

Mainly cloudy, 4°, light NE.

A rather quiet time out along the Bunk line to the gravel pit area today.

A Raven flew south east and a single Herring Gull hanging out with a flock of c100 Black-headed Gull.

A good number of Pied Wagtail noted in fields and a few Yellowhammer and a single Reed Bunting along with several Linnet along Green lane and the usual Fieldfare and Redwing also several Song Thrush seen.

4 Stock Dove in the garden today and the Little Grebe still on Cholsey Brook.

A Christmas day walk

Sunny, 2°, light WNW.

A nice Christmas day walk with Loren out to the Lees and back.

Again, fairly quiet and the usual flocks of Fieldfare and Redwing moving around.

Approx. 200 Lesser Blackback Gull on a flood and numbers of Black-headed Gull scattered about.

A little flurry of Skylark activity as a Kestrel flew over and the odd Meadow Pipit around and a distant Raven heard.

A Goldcrest and a couple of Mistle Thrush around the church.

A Little Grebe on Cholsey brook adjacent to Whitehead Meadow and a male Sparrowhawk whipped thru.

Mammals: Roe Deer.

Ravens

Overcast, 12°, light N.

Bunk line very quiet today, a single Chiffchaff, the usual flock of Meadow Pipit and a scattering of Yellowhammer and Reed Bunting.

Approx. 50 Redwing and 10 Fieldfare Green lane.

2 Raven flew north and shortly after a singleton flew south. 2 Sparrowhawk on the hunt and a Kestrel.

Little Grebe still present on gravel workings. Paer Alan. What is it feeding on? Must be insects? Are fish present yet?

A little less busy

Light cloud, 13°, moderate NE.

Both Tony W and myself out at Lollingdon today and Alan out along the Bunk line.

A Stonechat present on Lollingdon hill along one of the farm tracks and a small flock of c40 Fieldfare on the hill and a single Mistle Thrush.

At 11:40 a flock of approx. 200 Fieldfare passed overhead and flew towards Aston.

Only a handful of Redwing seen, 4 Chiffchaff, c50 Meadow Pipit, several Yellowhammer and a couple of Reed Bunting present and a slight increase in Song Thrush numbers.

A couple of Jay seen frequently over the last week flying off with acorns from the Oak trees out at Lollingdon.

Up to 40 Yellowhammer, several Reed Bunting and 2 Corn Bunting scattered around the Little Lollingdon area.

The Little Grebe still present on the new gravel workings and 25 Fieldfare and 30 ‘ish Redwing along the Bunk line and a Nuthatch Caps Lane area.

Mammals: Red Fox.

Dragonflies: a single Common Darter.

Butterflies: a few Whites on the wing and a single Speckled Wood and Alan saw a single Common Blue.

Still fairly quiet

Sunny with variable cloud, 13°, light NNW.

An early afternoon walk along the Bunk line/Green lane area. TW had just come back from a walk there and stated it rather was quiet.

4-5 Chiffchaff, 2 Green Woodpecker and a female Sparrowhawk of note.

A handful of Meadow Pipit, Skylark and Yellowhammer and little else.

Alan was out a little later and walked up as far as the gravel workings where there were 2 Stonechat and a Little Grebe.  

Dragonflies: a single Common Darter.

Butterflies: a single Red Admiral. Tony Rayner recorded a Small Copper and a Common Blue in his garden along with a Common Lizard.

Cholsey Marsh at dusk

Sunshine, 3°, another heavy frost (-5 overnight), light SE.

Approximately 160 Corn Bunting (highest count this winter) in the roost at the marsh this evening, also c50 Meadow Pipit, 5 Starling, a handful of Reed Bunting and a single Yellowhammer.

5 Common Snipe and at least 2 Water Rail on the marsh, 1 Chiffchaff and 2 Goldcrest with a tit flock and 6 Siskin in the riverside Alders and at least 2 Bullfinch in the Blackthorn.

A few Redwing and Fieldfare present and 5 Song Thrush noted.

32 Golden Plover flew overhead and 5 Cormorant flew downstream, a Kingfisher flew upstream and a Mute Swan, a Little Grebe, a Great-crested Grebe and 4 Teal on the river.

A Song Thrush in the garden this morning and the Blackcap also present and the 2 Nuthatch still visiting.
