Bunk

Sunny, 23°, breezy SW.

Bunk line: A Spotted Flycatcher in the small wood near the gravel pit and 5 Yellow Wagtail with the cattle near Church Road.

The gravel pit was quite busy with heavy machinery and around 200 Canada Geese and 20+ Greylag all congregating on one side of the pit and a lone Coot with them.

Approx. 200 Lesser Black-back Gull flushed from the pit and flew off towards Cholsey Hill.

100+ Black-headed Gull at CSW along with 2 Herring Gull.

A flock of c50 Goldfinch feeding on thistle heads along one of the field margins, 6 Yellowhammer, several Chiffchaff and a Blackcap.

Dragonflies: Migrant Hawker and Common Darter.

Butterflies: numbers down. Large White, Small White, Red Admiral, Meadow Brown and Small Heath.

A Moth and a couple of Shieldbug in garden.

Another January passes by

Cloudy with a few rain showers, 6°, light ESE.

Still fairly quiet.

Bunk: 5 Chiffchaff, 40+ Pied Wagtail, a Grey Wagtail, 5 Meadow Pipit, Goldcrest, Treecreeper, 40+ Redwing, 20+ Fieldfare, 2 Coot, 2 Gadwall, 6 Tufted Duck, usual Gull species, etc.

Lollingdon: c150 Lapwing, c50 Lesser Blackback Gull, c100 Black-headed Gull, 5 Teal, a few hundred Fieldfare and Redwing and a Goldcrest.

Caps Lane: Barn Owl hunting - 5.00pm ‘ish.

Bunk & Long Ditch

Sunshine after the rain, 5°, breezy WSW.

Bunk area: 22+ Pied Wagtail, 2 Meadow Pipit, Chiffchaff, Treecreeper,20+ Fieldfare, 8 Redwing, 2 Mistle Thrush, 4-500 Starling, a large flock of c500 Corvids, 150+ Black-headed Gull, 2 Herring Gull, very few Lesser Blackback Gull, a Coot, 2 Gadwall, 2 Pochard, 5 Tufted Duck and 2 Little Grebe, etc.

Long Ditch: Great White Egret over, Common Snipe, Kingfisher and Reed Bunting. And a Blackcap (m) in Alan’s Garden.

1st Snowdrops noted.

Mixed bag

Overcast with rain showers later, 16°, light SSE.

A bit of a mixed bag today.

Alan found 6 Stonechat between the main line railway and the Long Ditch this afternoon, a Common Snipe, Kingfisher and a Chiffchaff.

Also 80 Golden Plover on Cholsey Hill this morning and 2 Grey Wagtail.

Bunk: a single Swallow flew through, 2 Chiffchaff, a Coot, Green Sandpiper, 2 Raven, a Tawny Owl being mobbed by 2 Jay, 2 Yellowhammer, c20 Pied Wagtail, c100 Meadow Pipit, 26 Skylark and approx. 100+ Redwing, scattered widely along the area.

Forgot to mention 10 Teal on the flood by the Wallingford Road yesterday. Per Alan.

Dragonflies: Common Darter.

Sunshiny Day

A sunny day, 12°, light S.

Another quietish day along the Bunk: 3 Swallow, a single Chiffchaff and Blackcap, a Coot (first of the year) , Kingfisher, 2 Raven, c80 Meadow Pipit, 10+ Pied Wagtail, 2 Grey Wagtail, several Skylark and 3 Goose species.

Dragonflies: several Common Darter.

Butterflies: a Large White, 2 Small White and 5 Red Admiral.
