Flaming June.......Not by a long shot!

A windy day, cloudy, 12°, fresh W and rain showers.

A stiff westerly breeze blowing across the hill this afternoon and not a great deal seen.

A few Whitethroat, a single Lesser Whitethroat and up to 6 Corn Bunting present. Also a couple of Swallow and a handful of Swift feeding over the hill on the sheltered side was about it.

A decision to go down to Cholsey Marsh hoping it would be a little more sheltered.

Around 20 House Martin, 8 Swallow and a few Swift feeding low over the river and marsh.

Whitethroat, Blackcap, Garden Warbler, Lesser Whitethroat, Sedge Warbler, Reed Warbler, Chiffchaff, Jay and Reed Bunting all noted.

A Kingfisher flew upstream along the river and a Mute Swan flew downstream towards the 4 Arches and 2 Black-headed Gull flew west. A Great-spotted Woodpecker seen feeding young and a Treecreeper also seen feeding young.

A couple of observers have reported a ♀ Cuckoo on the marsh recently and at least 1 ♂ has also been present.

Around a dozen House Martin and the same of Swallow feeding over the garden close to the trees on and off today and a Goldcrest heard singing. A Grey Heron in the meadow this evening during the rain.

Butterflies: only 2 unidentified Whites.

  1. The goldcrests have fledglings, last seen opposite Marymean on sunday.
