A quiet start to August

Sunny, 22º, light SW.

The beginning of August and a visit to the hill proved quiet, some heavy rain showers yesterday but brighter today.

Around 6 Chiffchaff on the hill, 10+ Linnet and 4 Kestrel was about it on the south face.

The odd Lesser Blackback Gull flying over and a few Red Kite and Buzzard in the distance.

A couple of Hobby to the north.

Dragonflies; Brown Hawker and Southern Hawker.

Butterflies; Meadow Brown, Speckled Wood, Small White, 1 Large White, 2 Red Admiral, Gatekeeper, Small Skipper, 2 Common Blue.

A Hedgehog in the garden last night.

A particularly belligerent Jackdaw appeared on the hill and kept hassling the Kestrels.

This Common Blue was trapped on the burr and could not free itself, so after some delicate manipulation we managed to free it and it flew off apparently none the worse for the experience.
