The Marsh & The Hill

Cloudy, 14º, light W.

A visit to Cholsey marsh and Lollingdon hill today, the marsh had at least 5 singing Chiffchaff, a singing Willow Warbler and Sedge Warbler, a Treecreeper, 2 Long-tailed Tit, at least 3 Bullfinch present, a couple of Reed Bunting, 2 Water Rail, both Great-spotted and Green Woodpecker and a Grey Wagtail flew overhead.

A Kingfisher opposite Ferry lane and a couple of Great Crested Grebe on the river.

A Peregrine flew over Westfield road as we drove up to the hill and a little later we had 3 Raven fly over heading towards the downs.

A Sparrowhawk present on the hill briefly before flying towards the village, 2 Meadow Pipit, 6+ Yellowhammer, 3 Corn Bunting, 4 Linnet and 2 Redwing.

We also watched 5 Red Kite in the distance performing various aerobatics and at one point two of the Kites clutched talons and began spinning down earthwards for what seemed like ages before letting go and sailing off to join the others. Quite a display!

Peacock and Small Tortoiseshell butterflies seen at both sites.
